Hi, my name's Shelly. I work at Millfield Care Home. I'm a care assistant and a lead activity champion. Being part of the live sessions from the start of the Music in Mind project, and it was something I was enjoying. I just thought it'd be nice to become a Music Champion so I could progress and learn more about it. At first, when I started the Music in Mind project, I was quite skeptical about it at first. I didn't know if it was something I could take to or I didn't know how the residents would take to it. But as I continued to attend week after week and being part of the Music in Mind projects, I became to have an understanding of how it works and saw it progress week after week, especially when you saw residents interacting with each other.
And if one resident was falling behind with an instrument, it was nice to see another resident encourage them and bring them back into the session. So it was nice to watch how the residents interacted with one another, the emotions on the faces, especially with residents that wouldn't normally join in. And when they was looking around the room watching what the other residents was doing, and then they'd start joining in the session, it was an accomplishment in itself.
